Week 1 Simple Box Level


So for this assignment, the goal was to build a level out of cubes. Along the way, the process was intended to reinforce our understanding of how to scale objects and import them back and forth between Unreal Engine and Maya, how to bevel edges, how to build node maps, and how to build materials. 

1. Here is the mannequin imported from Unreal Engine into Maya, scaled next to a 180 cm cube:

3. The node map I constructed to control variables in order to build materials:


4. Below is the first material instance I built in Unreal after importing the cube mesh from Maya. I decided against the red metallic in the end and used a black glass/ white marble material for my final level:


5. After choosing the materials and blocking out the shapes, it was time to play around with lighting to affect the overall mood. I started out with a sunset, but ultimately decided to stick with a colder overall feel with lots of blues, and turning down the warmth of the sun's color.
